Even though ceramic coatings repel dirt, road salt and grime still accumulate. In freezing months, aim to wash the car at least once a month to remove corrosive salt. In fair weather, bi-weekly washes are ideal. This prevents build-up that can “fill” the coating’s pores and reduce shine and water beading.
When washing, use one bucket with clean soapy water and another with rinse water. This minimizes grit on the wash mitt and avoids micro-scratches on the clear coat.
Always use a high-quality, pH-neutral car shampoo formulated for coated vehicles. Harsh detergents, acidic wheel cleaners, or degreasers can erode the coating over time. Avoid automatic car washes or any cleaning chemicals not designed for ceramic finishes.
After washing, dry the car with a clean, soft microfiber towel or a low-pressure blower. This prevents water spots and avoids scratching. Incorporating a blower to evacuate water can also prove helpful. Avoid vigorous drying or terry-cloth towels, which can mar the surface.
Traditional waxes or sealants are not needed on a ceramic coating. In fact, waxes can clog the coating’s surface and diminish its hydrophobic action. If extra gloss is desired, use a ceramic-specific booster spray approved for your coating system.

Finally, a ceramic maintenance booster is applied. This is typically a SiO₂-rich detailer or coating-compatible topper that chemically bonds with the original layer. It restores hydrophobic performance and adds a fresh top layer of protection, essentially “rejuvenating” the coating.
By the end of this service, the coating’s original properties such as deep gloss, slickness, and water beading are fully revived. Professionals use products matched to your specific coating brand so that the new top layer integrates seamlessly with the original chemistry.
